It’s been a few years since I last opened our doors for a holiday home tour, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to share this one with you. This year’s transformation marks a significant shift in our approach to holiday decorating, embracing a palette brimming with rich colors and a delightful blend of modern and traditional elements. One of the biggest reasons for the hiatus in our Christmas home tours was simply timing. In past years, we always opted for a fresh tree, which meant decorating couldn’t begin until much closer to Thanksgiving to ensure its freshness throughout the season. However, this year, we invested in a truly stunning artificial tree – one that we absolutely adore and which you might have glimpsed in my recent post about colorful Christmas trees. This fantastic addition allowed us to start decorating much earlier, a decision I wholeheartedly embrace! There’s something truly magical about extending the holiday cheer, savoring every moment of the season, and enjoying our beautiful decorations for longer.

Beyond the timing, my previous holiday decor often felt a bit uninspired. While I adore color in every other aspect of our home, our Christmas scheme always seemed to default to the traditional red, white, and green. While classic, it simply didn’t reflect my vibrant personality or the eclectic style I love to infuse into our living spaces. I realized I wasn’t excited to share something that didn’t truly spark joy for me.

This year, that all changed. I made a conscious decision to kick our Christmas colors up a notch – or ten! And now, I am completely head-over-heels in love with every detail. Let’s begin our tour in the family room, undoubtedly my favorite space in the house, especially when it’s adorned for Christmas. The focal point here, and a constant source of admiration, are the velvety, navy blue 12 Days of Christmas prints. These exquisite artworks are proudly displayed from our unique DIY frames & pipe creation, crafted from reclaimed wood. Above these captivating prints, you’ll find the charming DIY felt ball wreath I joyfully made earlier this year, complemented by a simple, elegant garland. The combination truly sets a festive and sophisticated tone.

I am utterly smitten with the new pom-pom stockings I crafted (a tutorial for these cheerful additions will be coming your way soon!), which hang alongside a whimsical felt “Merry Christmas” garland I discovered this season. But I simply must rave about the sumptuous velvet throw pillows scattered on the couch. While not explicitly designed as Christmas pillows, their rich textures and vibrant colors integrate seamlessly, adding depth and a touch of luxury that works perfectly within this festive setting. The room truly comes alive with these thoughtful details, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere for holiday gatherings.

Next on our tour, let’s slip into the master bedroom – a close second in my list of favorite decorated spaces this season. This year marks a delightful first: it’s the very first time we’ve added any Christmas decor to our bedroom! And while we didn’t go overboard with grand gestures, the subtle additions have made a remarkable difference, transforming it into a wonderfully fun and festive sanctuary. The beauty lies in the simplicity: a carefully placed wreath, a couple of festive pillows, delicate felt ball garlands draped with care, and the warm glow of candles amidst lush greenery. From the tranquility of the bedroom, let’s now transition to our foyer, where a cheerful and welcoming Christmas display greets everyone who steps through our front door. Our brand-new DIY plank wall serves as the perfect backdrop, feeling wonderfully festive and inviting. We intentionally kept the decor simple yet impactful in this space, allowing each element to shine. Proudly hanging is our vibrant DIY pom pom wreath, a burst of color that instantly lifts the spirits, paired with our charming DIY reindeer sign. A whimsical red and white felt garland artfully weaves through these elements, adding a playful touch.

And then there’s the star of the foyer – my absolute favorite plaid stag, a beloved decoration we’ve cherished for several years now. He holds a special place, adding a touch of rustic charm and personal history to our modern holiday scheme. The foyer, though a transitional space, sets the tone for the entire home, and with these thoughtful, handcrafted touches, it perfectly embodies the eclectic and colorful Christmas spirit that flows throughout our abode. Elegant Simplicity: The Dining Room

Now, let’s take a peek into the dining room, a space where we embraced an ethos of elegant simplicity for our Christmas decor. Our primary focus was on transforming the bar area, which we ingeniously created with our DIY pipe shelves. Here, a vibrant colorful felt ball garland was draped with festive cheer, and a charming Christmas print was added, instantly infusing the space with holiday magic without requiring extensive effort. It’s amazing how two simple elements can make such a grand statement, proving that sometimes less truly is more, especially when color and personality are involved.

Beyond this festive bar area, our holiday touches in the dining room were minimal yet impactful. We simply brought out our cherished Christmas dishes, which add an immediate sense of occasion to any meal, and scattered a collection of whimsical bottle brush trees across the table and various surfaces. These little trees, in their varying sizes and hues, introduce a delightful texture and a playful nod to traditional holiday forestry, all while maintaining the room’s refined ambiance. The dining room, with its understated elegance and pops of festive color, is now perfectly poised for intimate holiday dinners and memorable celebrations, demonstrating that sophisticated Christmas decor doesn’t always have to be elaborate.

Sweetening the Kitchen with Holiday Charm

Alright, now it’s time to venture into the kitchen. This has historically been our least favorite room in the house, even after we gave our outdated cabinets a fresh coat of paint without priming or sanding almost five years ago! Consequently, it’s a space I’ve rarely bothered to decorate for Christmas. However, I must confess, it’s now a room I appreciate a bit more, especially since it’s been lovingly decked out for the holidays!

My favorite addition by far are the charming little wreaths adorning the cabinet doors. To truly infuse them with our new colorful theme, I added some vibrant felt balls, which not only introduce a pop of much-needed color but also add wonderful dimension and texture. These simple yet effective touches prove that even in a space you might not entirely love, a little festive charm can go a long way in brightening the mood and making it feel like part of the larger holiday celebration.

Of course, I continue to adore my full 12 Days of Christmas print set displayed proudly on the wall. These prints offer such a cute and remarkably affordable way to adorn the area near our back door and garage, transforming a utilitarian space into a festive entryway for daily comings and goings. It’s a cheerful sight that makes even quick trips through the kitchen feel a little more magical during the holidays.

This same area also serves as a wonderful gallery for all our past Christmas cards. We simply tuck them into these elegant place card holders, creating a lovely display of cherished memories and heartfelt greetings from friends and family. It’s a simple, charming, and ever-evolving piece of decor that truly embodies the spirit of connection during this special season.

Finally, in our cozy breakfast nook, we proudly showcase our DIY countdown to Christmas wall hanging. I paired it with an adorable felt Santa garland I found last year and a more colorful felt ball garland to add an extra layer of vibrancy and festive charm to this beloved corner of our kitchen. Each day brings us closer to Christmas, and this little display makes the anticipation even more delightful. Even our least favorite room now sparkles with holiday joy, proving that with a little creativity and a lot of color, any space can be transformed into a festive haven.
